Access to pharmacy and healthcare services

Late spring bank holiday weekend

 

Getting advice from a local pharmacist is the best first step for a minor health concern.

 

People can speak to a pharmacist in confidence, in a private area, about the most personal symptoms, and should telephone their usual pharmacy before travelling as opening times may vary over the bank holiday.  

 

Prior to the bank holiday weekend, anyone who has a condition that their pharmacist cannot treat, is advised to contact their GP by phone in the first instance, or visit their website for details about online consultation, if available.

 

During the bank holiday weekend, if a health condition cannot be treated by a pharmacist residents are advised to call NHS 111 or go online www.111.nhs.uk who are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 

Alternatively, anyone unable to get an appointment and needing to see someone urgently can visit the Urgent Treatment Centre (including walk-in access) and primary care access service at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (Tameside Hospital site). The centre is open 9am-9pm every day of the year.

 

NHS Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group Co-Chairs, Drs Asad Ali and Ashwin Ramachandra, said: “Anyone feeling unwell and self-isolating should ask friends, relatives or neighbours to collect medicines in the first instance to reduce the demand and pressure on the pharmacy delivery services.   “For those who are self-isolating, and are struggling to access medication with no support available, please call our helpline on 0161 342 8355.   “Finally, please follow all government announcements on self-isolation and social distancing: stay at home; only go outside for food, health reasons or essential work; stay two metres (6ft) away from other people; wash your hands as soon as you get home and protect yourselves and others.” 

 

Residents are reminded not to visit their GP practice, pharmacy or hospital if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19 (a high temperature – feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature); a new, continuous cough - this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual); Anosmia - the loss of or a change in your normal sense of smell. It can also affect your sense of taste as the two are closely linked.

Covid-19 Shielding Letters

This is not something your GP's can deal with and have been sent out by the government. We cannot provide patients with a letter and cannot deal with individual requests for this.  Patients who have been identified as having an increased risk and should be particularly stringent in following social distancing measures are as follows:

  • Aged 70 or older regardless of other medical condition.
  • Under 70 with an underlying health condition (listed below):
  • Chronic long term respiratory diseases, such as asthma, COPD, emphysema and bronchitis.
  • Chronic heart disease such as heart failure.
  • Chronic kidney disease.
  • Chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis.
  • Chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, a learning disability or Cerebral Palsy.
  • Diabetes.
  • Problems with your spleen - for example, sickle cell disease or is you have had your spleen removed.
  • A weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS, or medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy.
  • Being seriously overweight with a BMI of 40 or above.
  • Those who are pregnant.

For Sick Notes relating to Covid-19:  Please go to the NHS111 website to download an isolation note.  GP's will not be issuing sick notes for Covid-19.

We have now locked our front doors.  This is due to the high number of patients still coming into surgery and not following current guidelines.  Please read the advice below for further information.

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis and unprecedented demands on General Practice, GP’s are having to change the way they work and patients are now being managed over the telephone.

Non-urgent work is being halted or postponed until it is deemed safer to do so.

 

Therefore we are unable to offer any routine appointments at this time. If you have

a face to face pre-booked appointment DO NOT ATTEND THE SURGERY,

you will be contacted by a clinician and triaged.

 

From now all appointments will be booked as telephone consultations

. Please refrain from entering the surgery unless you have been triaged by our clinical team.

 

Patients who do not use electronic prescribing are asked to go to your local pharmacy

and nominate them to receive your electronic prescription.

 

Please be patient with our staff at this challenging time as they are following clinical guidelines.

Please follow the current guidelines and avoid coming into practice if you have a new onset continuous cough or a high temperature.  This is for the safety of other patients and our staff.

 

 

The NHS is in the process of massive change due to the Coronavirus pandemic.  At Albion Medical Practice we have been reviewing our systems and making changes to improve the safety and efficiency of the care that we provide.

We would like to encourage all of our patients who have repeat prescriptions to use the new NHS App.  This can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and is free to use.  This will allow patients to order their prescription from their smartphone or computer instead of attending the practice to obtain a repeat prescription.

You can use the NHS App to:

  • Get advice about coronavirus - get information about coronavirus and find out what to do if you think you have it
  • Order repeat prescriptions - see your available medicines, request a new repeat prescription and choose a pharmacy for your prescription to be sent to
  • Book appointments - search for, book and cancel appointments at your GP surgery, and see details of your upcoming and past appointments
  • Check your symptoms - Search trusted NHS information and advice on hundreds of conditions and treatments and get instant advice or medical help near you
  • View your medical record - securely access your GP medical record, to see information like your allergies and your current and past medicines
  • Register your organ donation decision - choose to donate some or all of your organs and check your registered decision
  • Find out how the NHS uses your data - choose if data from your health record is shared for research and planning

Coronavirus Testing

The government has been increasing the volume of coronavirus testing and is now making tests available for people in the community who have symptoms of coronavirus.  If you would like to apply for a test please visit:

The front doors remain locked unless you have been given an appointment

by a clinician to attend.  This is for the safety of our patients, staff and GP's. 

If a GP has asked you to come down to surgery please knock

or use the bell provided and our staff will let you in.

If you are dropping off a prescription: Please post through the letterbox.

If you require a telephone appointment or advice:

Prescriptions for collection:

Patients will be contacted directly if they have a prescription waiting to be collected.  You will be asked to nominate a local pharmacy and your prescription will be sent electronically.

Sick notes:

Will be scanned and emailed or posted out to patients.

Private Report/Forms:

Will be posted out once payment has been received (if applicable)

 

Childhood Immunisation Update:

Children should still attend for routine vaccinations unless they are unwell or self-isolating because they have been in contact with someone with COVID-19.  In these circumstances please rearrange your appointment.

Appointments will be every half hour and we ask that only one parent attend with the child if possible.

We need to avoid people coming to the surgery unless they really need to.  With Covid-19 now circulating within the country, we don't know who might have it as you can be infected for several days before you have symptoms.  Patients coming to the surgery have the potential to spread the virus to staff, who can then infect others, some of whom are likely to be the most vulnerable in the population.  We may also see staff numbers affected and therefore our ability to maintain service provision.

All appointments are currently telephone triage.  The majority of issues can be

safely dealt with in this way.  If a clinician decides that they need to see a

patient face to face , we want to be able to identify who they are and how we

see them.  if you do need to be seen the reception staff will be available to let

you into the building.  Please ensure that you stay 2 metres away from other people at all times.  When you see the doctor please don't be

surprised to find them in a mask, gown and gloves.

Please remember these guidelines are for your protection and ours.  Please be respectful and kind to our receptionists.  They care deeply about our patients and are working extremely hard during these difficult and challenging times.
